Members will be aware that the Society hosted a CPD seminar in early 2015 which dealt with the consolidation of the existing legislation in relation to the Statutory Charge and in particular the implementation of the Civil Legal Services (Statutory Charge) Regulations (NI) 2015 (the Regulations).
These Regulations incorporate the exemptions from the Statutory Charge contained in previous legislation to recover costs from those receiving legal aid in cases where the court awards the legally aided applicant lump sums of cash or property or where the applicant retains and continues to live in the family home.
With the aim of clarifying the current legal position, the Society is hosting a refresher CPD seminar to review the changes and consider a number of practical issues which have arisen with the implementation of the Regulations to date.
This session will be delivered by Lisa Melarkey of Dermot Walker, Madden and Co. Lisa is a member of the NIGALA Panel, the Children Order Panel and the Law Society Family Law Committee.
