Guidance for Court Sittings on 19 September 2022

Please find below further information to supplement that on the judiciary-ni website in relation to the arrangements for court business on Monday 19th September 2022.

There will be no judicial sittings (no hearings in person or virtually, except for emergency work) on the day of the State Funeral of the Sovereign.

Urgent Business Arrangements

The exception will be for urgent business and emergency sittings, such as:

•         overnight custody cases, subject to the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence (NI) Order 1989,

•         time sensitive cases which, if not heard, create risks to the public or any one individual; or

•         matters of protection and injunction in the family and civil courts,   

Any emergency court sittings, or for urgent work to be dealt with, when the court is closed will be handled in line with standard bank holiday arrangements and may be arranged for the following venues:

•         Laganside – 2 courts sitting

•         Dungannon

•         Lisburn

•         Ballymena

Emergency court sittings convened on Monday 19th should, in consultation with the relevant judiciary, sit between 9.30 – 11.00 am and then adjourn until after the Funeral Service.  Any business not concluded by 11.00 am may be dealt with at a re-convened sitting later that day.

Scheduled Business

Business currently listed on Monday 19th September 2022 will, in conjunction with local judiciary, be adjourned and relisted as appropriate.
