President contributes to important QUB Gender Network events

The President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, Suzanne Rice was delighted to attend two important events organised by the QUB Gender Network at Queens Film Theatre in Belfast on Thursday 10th January 2019.

The President joined members of the legal and academic community for the screening of the a film about the life an work of renown American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The President also contributed to a follow up panel discussion alongside Mrs Justice Keegan & Sarah Ramsey Chair of the Bar of Northern Ireland and Kathryn McNeilly, QUB Human Rights lecturer.

The theme of the panel discussion was "Diversity in Legal Representation  and the role of women as pioneers in the law".

The panel discussed issues such as how to promote females in the law, access to the solicitors profession for all and the increase of females to the judiciary.

The President outlined how the Law Society continues to develop diversity through its solicitor mentoring scheme with assists students entry into the solicitors profession through scholarship.

Commenting the President said:

"I wish to thank the QUB Gender Network for their invitation to attend the screening of the film about Justice Bader Ginsburg and to contribute to the panel discussion on Diversity in Legal Representation. Events such as these are important in providing platforms and widening the discussion on these issues".
