President Congratulates Members on New Year Honours Awards

Dear Colleague

I am delighted to report that two members of the profession, Mrs. Fiona Chamberlain and Mr. Alastair Rankin, have received awards in the New Year’s Honours list.

Fiona was until recently the Crown Solicitor for Northern Ireland and has made an outstanding contribution to Government legal services in Northern Ireland over the course of her career. She has been made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB).

Alastair was President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland in 1997 and remains a member of the Society's Council.

He represented the Society on the CCBE for 15 years and on the Judicial Appointments Commission for 6 years.

He was for many years a partner in Cleaver Fulton Rankin and, although he retired from practice in 2015, he continues to sit as a part-time tax judge and Tribunal Chairman. He has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of his public and charitable services.

On behalf of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, I would like to congratulate both Fiona and Alastair on their well-deserved awards.

Rowan White

President
