OLCJ Consultation on Revocation of Obsolete Practice Directions 2021

The Society has been asked by the Office of the Lord Chief Justice to comment on a proposed draft Practice Direction with Annex.

The shadow Civil Justice Counsel (sCJC) initiated a review of Practice Directions following the recommendation of the Civil Justice Review that a composite register of all Practice Directions be drawn up by the Office of the Lord Chief Justice [CJ27].

The first stage of this review was to identify the Practice Directions which are obsolete or revoked, and those which are still active.   This review identified 104 Practice Directions issued between 1959 and 2012 that are deemed obsolete, and it is proposed that these are now revoked.

If anyone has any views on whether any of the listed Practice Directions should be retained, we would be grateful if you would email peter.obrien@lawsoc-ni.org on or before Friday 7th May 2021 advising why you consider same should not be revoked.
