New Legal Services Oversight Commissioner Addresses Council

The Council of the Law Society of Northern Ireland welcomed the new Legal Services Oversight Commissioner, Ms. Marian Cree, to Law Society house on Wednesday 13th September 2017.

Ms. Cree had been invited by the Chief Executive of the Society, Alan Hunter, to address the Council about her new role and the implementation of the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016.

Following her address, Ms Cree took the opportunity to respond to a series of questions from members of the Council.

The Legal Services Oversight Commissioner is a newly created public office and was established by the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (NI) 2016.

In April 2017, Ms. Marian Cree was appointed to serve as Legal Services Oversight Commissioner for a period of three years.

Ms.Cree will also undertake the role of Lay Observer for Northern Ireland.

The office of the Lay Observer operates in accordance with Article 42 of the Solicitors (NI) Order 1976 as amended.
