The Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland receives and investigates complaints about police officers made by members of the public, and also matters of public interest involving the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The statutory objective of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland is to secure the efficiency, effectiveness and independence of the police complaints system and the confidence of the public and the police in that system.  The Police Ombudsman is committed to providing the highest possible standard of customer service to service users and stakeholders and strives to continually improve service performance.   

The Office is seeking to recruit a Legal Officer to work in the Ombudsman’s Disclosure Unit.  The Legal Officer will be expected to deal with a range of civil litigation work and coronial inquests and to support the Legal Team as a whole. The Legal Officer will also be required to undertake their own case work and provide advice to a range of investigative staff on human rights law and civil litigation including the liability position of legal claims and negotiate as appropriate the settlement of claims at the direction of the Head of Legal Services.
