Law Society Statement on Outcome of Judicial Review

The Law Society of Northern Ireland has said that the outcome of the judicial review of Crown Court legal aid fees will be carefully considered.

The Society which represents solicitors throughout Northern Ireland launched a joint judicial review with the Bar Council in May 2015 in relation to the levels of remuneration payable by way of criminal legal aid for cases in the Crown Court.

Commenting the President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, Arleen Elliott said:

“The Law Society will carefully consider the judgement before responding in full. The Society continues to press the Minister for Justice to provide an adequately funded justice system, defined by the needs of the public and which continues to provide access to independent legal representation”.
