Law Insight Event Opens Door to Legal Careers

Understanding the career opportunities within the legal profession in Northern Ireland was the focus of an information which took place at Law Society House in Belfast.

Over fifty students, staff and solicitors attended the ‘Law Insight’ event organised by The Open University (OU) in partnership with the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

OU Law students and recent graduates attending the event had the opportunity to hear from a number of legal professionals on the career opportunities available.

Amongst those speaking at the event were the Director of The Open University in Ireland, John D’Arcy, the Chief Executive of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, David A. Lavery CB and Barbara Jemphrey, Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS).

Those attending also had an opportunity to participate in a series of networking opportunities as well as advice and information from former OU law alumni who are currently working as practising solicitors.

Commenting the Director of The Open University in Ireland, John D’Arcy said:

“The Open University sees the employability skills of our students as a key priority to their future success and also the workplaces in which they will contribute these skills.

We are proud to work with the Law Society in Northern Ireland to give OU students the opportunity to learn these valuable skills from law professionals and find out first-hand how they can enter and develop a career in law.”
