Launch of Climate Change Resolution
The Law Society
of Northern Ireland is pleased to publish its Climate Change Resolution,
outlining the role that the Society and our members can play in addressing the
climate crisis.
Earlier this year the Society
established a Climate Justice Group to take pro-active steps to address climate
change issues affecting the solicitor profession in Northern Ireland and to
promote and enhance the role of solicitors in tackling climate change. The
resolution is one of the first steps in this process.
The resolution, which can be found here, has two key
strands:
* Sections 1 and 2 cover the
Society’s commitments in relation to climate change, for example developing
plans to reduce our carbon footprint and providing support and guidance to
solicitors to make changes in their business.
* Sections 3 to 5 encourages solicitors
to make changes (consistent with their professional duties and obligations) to
address climate change and act in a climate conscious manner.
The Society is currently developing
its Sustainability Strategy and further guidance will issue to solicitors in
due course.
