Introduction to the Charity Regulator – The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland

There are approximately 10,000 charities in Northern Ireland. The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is the regulator of charities in Northern Ireland, established under the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

This session will provide members with an insight into the work of the Regulator of Charities, an overview of the duties imposed on charity trustees by the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and how charity regulation could impact on your clients’ day to day operational activity.

The seminar will cover a number of key areas:

· An introduction to the Charity Commission;

· Getting Registered: The importance of purposes and the public benefit requirement;

· Cyprès and other casework;

· The Charity Commission’s regulatory powers.

The seminar will be delivered by Frances McCandless, Chief Executive, Charity Commission /Representative from the Charity Commission.

To increase accessibility the seminar will take place in the following locations:

Tuesday 26 May 2015 Canal Court Hotel, Newry 11.30am – 1pm

Thursday 1 October 2015 Roe Park Resort, Limavady 1pm – 2.30pm
