Intellectual Property Series - An Overview

01 Dec 2017
12:00 - 13:00
Law Society House, Belfast See Details

During 2017 the Society is running two separate Intellectual Property/IT Law sessions which will be delivered by IP and IT lawyers Forde Campbell LLC.

Session 1 - Friday 1 December 2017 - Intellectual Property, An Overview (12 noon - 1.00pm)

It is hard to think of any business today which does not involve a software system of one kind or another. As clients become more and more tech dependent, they are looking to commercial lawyers to provide advice on IT contracts.

This IT Law session will:

  • look at the IT world from a practical point of view;

  • discuss the best steps to take to bridge the gap between lawyer and “techie” so that the client’s needs can be properly understood;

  • provide an update on the market position for terms in different types of IT contract;

  • provide an introduction to the mysteries of open source software licensing and the copyleft theory.

This session is aimed at commercial lawyers generally, rather than IT specialists. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how to advise on the different types of IT transaction, where to find up to date best practice advice and how the continuous development of tech provides lawyers with many different opportunities for growth.

Session 2 -  Friday 1 December 2017 - Intellectual Property, An Update (1.00pm-2.00pm)

In todays corporate environment clients increasingly need to be advised as to how they protect their IP, while at the same time exposing it to the marketplace for monetisation.
