Description and Duties

The Law Society of Northern Ireland, under the Solicitors (Northern Ireland) Order 1976, is the regulatory body for Solicitors in Northern Ireland and has statutory powers to educate, discipline and supervise the conduct of Solicitors in the public interest.

The Law Society of Northern Ireland (“the Law Society”) seeks to recruit a Head of Professional Conduct to take up appointment late 2013 – early 2014.  This will allow a handover period.

The Head of Professional Conduct for the Law Society will be part of the Senior Management Team within the Law Society. The duties include responsibility for the programme of regulation of conduct matters and of certain Regulatory Committees relative to the solicitors’ branch of the legal profession.

The post-holder will report to the Chief Executive.

The criteria for appointment include the essential requirement that at the closing date for applications an applicant must be a qualified solicitor and on the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland or alternatively must be eligible to be admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland. Additionally a minimum of 5 years professional experience in a range of practice areas including a minimum of 3 years experience of responsibility for managing budgets and human resources in a professional capacity is essential.
