Aiden Corrigan BL is an experienced counsel with considerable knowledge of the County Court including sitting as a Deputy County Court Judge. He will talk about developments in the contentious area of credit hire agreements including several recent decisions of the High Court.

Rodney Peyton is a consultant general/trauma surgeon at South Tyrone Hospital with 40 years experience who has been involved with medico-legal reporting since 1983. DI Dennison is the Crime Manager CID Ballymena and will address the subjects of the reintroduction of Taking into Consideration offences and Integrated Offender Management which involves Police, Youth Justice Agency, Probation, Court Service and Prison Service and possibly other agencies co-ordinating their work with offenders.

Electronic Monitoring – Gerald Colan-O’Leary

Gerald Colan-O’Leary is Area Operations Manager for G4S who are the world’s largest providers of electronic monitoring and including the service here in Northern Ireland and will talk about the application of electronic monitoring for defendants on bail and (in conjunction with PBNI) post release offenders.

Conacre – Philip McCall

Philip McCall is a partner in James W McNinch & Son and was an executor of the will of Eileen McClean deceased involved in the hearings in 2008 before the HMRC Special Commissioner and in 2009 before the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal in relation to the eligibility of the estate’s lands let in conacre for Business Property Relief against Inheritance Tax.

OCP Practice and Procedure – Valerie Martin

Valerie Martin is the Office Manager in the Patients Section of the Office of Care and Protection and will talk about the services available from the Office in relation to the affairs of Patients under the provisions of Part VII of the Mental Health (NI) Order 1986. She will also discuss common errors in dealing with Controllership and EPA Registration Applications and proposed changes to the forms and procedure.

Solicitors (Client Communication) Practice Regulations 2008

  • Moira Neeson is the Law Society of Northern Ireland’s Head of Client Complaints who oversaw the introduction of the 2008 Regulations and will discuss their implications, implementation and provide further explanation and guidance on any ongoing difficulties.
  • Legal Research - Heather Semple is the Head of Library and Information Services at the Law Society of Northern Ireland and will outline the benefits of some non-commercial authoritative resources for legal research, examine the pitfalls of using Google for legal research and the services and resources available in the Law Society library and how they can be tailored to fit the needs of individual solicitors

The seminar is scheduled to start with lunch / registration at 1pm and aims to be concluded by 4.30pm with 3 hours Client Care & Practice Management CPD available
