Belfast Homecoming - Legal Symposium Thursday 29th November 2018
INVITATION
The Belfast International Homecoming Conference brings together leaders for change from across the world to build a better Belfast. The Diaspora have a key role to play in the transformation of our city. The intention of the Homecoming is to invite 150 leaders of the global Irish and Ulster-Scots diaspora to join us in Belfast to assist us in the conversation about how best to build the peace. The ambition is to introduce the Diaspora to the bridge builders and civic champions who are transforming Belfast into a beacon of peace, prosperity and diversity. Our Honorary Chair of the entire weekend is Howard Hastings. https://belfasthomecoming.com/chairs/
The three-day programme takes place in venues across the city and covers themes ranging from the Arts to Business, with the sole objective of underpinning the peace and building a better future for all our citizens. It is within that overarching context that the legal profession are delighted to extend a welcome to visiting lawyers, from America, Europe, England, Scotland and Wales and host them at the Inn of Court of the Royal Courts of Justice at our Legal Symposium on Thursday 29th November 2018.
Our program this year, enclosed for ease of reference, will touch upon transatlantic data security, the human rights, equality and constitutional impacts of Brexit as well as a session on the impact of social media on criminal trials presented by Brendan Kelly QC. Our session will be concluded by an address from Professor John Feerick Dean of Fordham Law School, New York on the very current relevant topic of the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution, on the mental incapacity of a President, which was drafted by Dean Feerick. Dean Feerick, was the 2017 recipient of the American Bar Association Medal, its highest award, which noted his numerous appointments and services of others and his integrity and compassion. Fordham University have a long standing commitment to Belfast through its relationship with Queens University Belfast. The Symposium will close with an address by the Lord Chief Justice.
This year’s Homecoming compliments the Belfast Basketball Classic which brings eight US college basketball teams to Belfast for a sporting extravaganza. http://sportchangeslife.com/news/basketball-hall-of-fame-belfast-classic-bounces-back-for-2018-with-eight-action-packed-games-on-offer/
