This notice is for first time applicants to the Panel. Please note that there is no function with the on-line application form to save and return at a later point to complete.

Solicitors wishing to be accredited to the Children Order Panel are invited to apply for membership on or before 4.00pm on Friday 10th September 2021.

Late applications will not be accepted.

1.1  To summarise the requirements, you are eligible to apply for membership if you:-

(i)         are in private practice with a Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of Northern Ireland at the date of accreditation (1st November 2021);

(ii)        have three years post-qualification experience;

(iii)       can demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge gained by representing parties in either public or private law proceedings under the Children Order (NI) 1995 or under the Children Act 1989 (if appropriate);

(iv)       can demonstrate relevant training and private study;

(v)        agree to provide references as required;

(vi)       are registered with the Criminal Justice Secure Mail (CJSM) system or there are exceptional circumstances as to why you are not registered;

(vii)      pay the fee of £230 to the Society with the submission of your application.

It is necessary to log in to the Members Section of the website to access documentation. 

1.3. The Regulations, Procedures, forms and a general guide are also available in the Members Section of the website. 

1.4. The form must be submitted on-line or received in hard copy by the Society by 4.00pm on Friday 10th September 2021

A late application will not be accepted. 

1.5. Payment of the fee of £230 may be made electronically to the Law Society of Northern Ireland or by BACS. Details are below.

1.6. When the application has been approved you will be required to attend a two-day training course on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th September 2021.

The selection process will continue with an examination on Friday 8th October 2021, and an interview with the Board on Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th or Friday 15th October 2021. At this point it is anticipated that the training course, examination and interviews will be delivered both face-to-face and virtually.

If you successfully complete all of the requirements your membership will commence on 1st November 2021.
