This session will cover applications in the Magistrates’ courts. It will cover:

  • Legal Aid (solicitor and counsel);

  • Disclosure;

  • Third Party Disclosure;

  • Bad Character;

  • Hearsay;

  • Special Measures;

  • Adjournment;

  • Galbraith.

The session will provide a summary of all of the above including appropriate forms, relevant primary legislation, Court Rules and case law on a memory stick.

This session will be presented by Séamus McIlroy. Séamus was a solicitor in private practice for a number of years with significant experience in the Magistrates’ Courts before moving into the public sector. Most recently he was the Director of Legal Services in the Office of the Police Ombudsman before he left to be called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in October 2018.

Attendees will be provided with a memory stick to include NI Case law database as well as all relevant case law, legislation and forms in relation to the various applications which will be discussed’.
