Education Committee

The Education Committee consists of up to fourteen members: seven Council Members and seven Cooptees (non-Council members who had volunteer to assist the Committee. The Committee generally meets every five weeks with a break in the New Year.

The Committee deals with policy and practical matters arising out of the education, training and admission of solicitors in Northern Ireland. Recent key issues include a review of the vocational training system for solicitors and the issue of a second consultation document, the accreditation of a second vocational training provider, namely, the Graduate School of Professional Legal Education at the University of Ulster's Magee campus. The Committee deals with a variety of applications including, applications for admission under alternative routes such as experienced law clerks or those with special qualification or experience, applications for admission for other jurisdictions.
